Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at has been described as a hero by the Chief Scientist at the Haematology Department, Lautech Teaching Hospital Osogbo, Mr. Tijani Adeshina, during a voluntary blood donation exercise carried out by the Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, Osun State.

The Majlis had on Wednesday, 17th October 2018 trooped out to voluntarily donate blood to needy patients at Lautech Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

During an interview with the Chief Scientist, he said since the inception of Lautech Teaching Hospital, no other religious group has surpassed Ahmadiyya Jama’at in humanitarian service as such.

“Since the inception of this hospital in the year 2000, Ahmadiyya Jama’at has been coming to donate blood in this hospital even when we strike, they will call and make inquiry on when we would resume.

“No religious group has surpassed their record in this hospital. As they have come to save lives today we tag them our hero. You are a hero when you safe a life because it is equal to saving the whole nation. We hereby urge other religious groups to emulate this act.”

Speaking on the benefit of blood donation, Mr. Tijani said the donated blood is useful for accident victims, patient with bleeding disorder, operation patients, bleeding after labour issues, anemia, sickle cell patients etc.

He furthered that for the donor, his bone marrow will be sensitized and produces new red cell into the circulation meaning that there won’t be cardiac overload to the hearth.

He also said before collecting blood from a prospective donor, screening such as testing for HIV, appetites B, appetites C, syphilis, checking for PCV whether he has enough blood among other screenings, so bleeding a donor means he has none of the mentioned infections and if he does, he will be given medical attention at instant.

Mr Tijani explained that apart from the whole blood which is used for treating anemia, loss of blood etc fresh frozen plasma is removed from the blood within 12 hours of collection through the machine called cold centrifuge and kept inside a freezer for another special purpose while the whole blood is returned to the blood bank.

He, however, urged individuals with blood group like 0 rhesus D negative to enroll in blood donation exercise because this is the rarest blood type and practitioners run helter-skelter when they have a patient in need of such blood type.

He further warned that parents with 0 rh D+ may give birth to a child with 0 rh D- thus such child is not a bastard but it as a result of the Mendelian law.

Mr. Tijani revealed that the practitioners were able to discover rare blood group among the Jama’at who came to donate and thanked Ahmadiyya Jama’at for their service to humanity.

After 7 hours spent at the blood bank, 20 pints of blood were acquired out of 27 members who took part in the programme.
