Youth members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Nigeria will converge in Yaba, Lagos State to advocate the propagation of the beautiful teachings of Islam through the concomitance of words and actions, especially as it concerns the nation’s youths in this multifaceted society. The annual convention, which has been held every year since 1972, will hold between Thursday 18th and Sunday 21st April, 2019 at Federal Science and Technical College, Yaba, Lagos State on the theme: Tabligh (Outreach).

Discussions at the Convention are expected to underscore the roles being played by followership and leadership in the fulfillment of relationship as trust, with the lead paper to be delivered by an erudite Islamic scholar, Muallim Uthman Muhammad Rabiu. Muallim Rabiu will speak on the theme: Tabligh (Outreach): Islam and Humanity.

Highlights of the convention include free health care delivery at Alhaji Kola Osho Primary Health Centre, Yaba; a public lecture on the topic Trust and Leadership as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) to be delivered by Alhaji Muhammad Waa’iz Apooyin. One of the principal objectives of the Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, founded in Nigeria in 1972, is the moral and spiritual training of youth through a mixture of religious and secular activities. It is dedicated to ensuring its members develop and excel in qualities such as piety, honesty and fair dealing so that they can better contribute to the country in which they live. The motto of the Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya is “Nations Cannot be Reformed without the Reformation of the Youths”.

As a reflection of this motto, the activities of MKA are not limited to the Muslim community. It serves the needs of all members of society irrespective of colour, race, religion or creed and promotes interfaith dialogue and co-operation in order to promote peace and harmony. As part of this year’s Annual Convention, Ahmadiyya youths will engage in activities such as speech contests, Quran recitation competition, sports events, quiz competitions, among others.

Dignitaries expected at the event include the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode; Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development; Honourable Minister for Youth and Sports; Oba of Somolu; National President, NYCN; Commissioner of Police, Lagos State; Honourable Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the Majority Leader in the Federal House of Representatives, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, among others.

A high point of the event will be the presentation of awards of excellence to state chapters of the organization who have excelled in different categories. This award ceremony rewards performance over the last one year of activities in the organization.
