Sadr, Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, Nigeria, Engr. Sa’eed Aina, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Chief Imams and others have attended the Ogun State 1441 Hijrah Celebration held at MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta on Sunday, 1st September, 2019.
According to a lecture in the event organized by the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Nigerians themselves have been the brain behind the non-achievement of our desired unity and peaceful co-existence despite various government policies and programmes.
Speaking on the theme ‘Historical Value of Hijrah on National Integration’, the guest lecturer, Dr. Saheed Timehin from the Department of Foreign Languages, Lagos State University went down the historical times of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) when he received revelation through Angel Jubril in 610 AD in Makkah. Prophet Muhammed (SAW) faced a series of persecutions from the people of Makkah which made his mission highly impossible for him to accomplish, hence, had to migrate to Madinah in 622 AD. The migration of the Prophet from Makkah, his comfort zone and abode, to Madinah is referred to as Hijrah.
Dr. Timehin continued that the Prophet, having found people of Madinah as completely heterogenous – different languages and religion and observed these differences owing to the need to pass across the divine mission, Prophet Muhammed (saw) first took a bold step by establishing the spirit of Islamic brotherhood among the people of Madinah (Jews, Christians and Muslims).
According to the former National Tabligh Secretary of the Jama’at, the Prophet achieved and was successfully led to the first Sovereign National Conference known as Madinah Charter, the first-ever written constitution in the world history; the constitution is binding on the people of different tribes and beliefs in the city to live in peace and harmony. This is the reason behind the city’s success till today.
Comparing Nigeria to Madinah in terms of complexity and heterogeneity, Timehin said Nigeria, a multi-lingual, multi-ethnic and multi-religious nation, chose to exist by the 1914 compulsory amalgamation of Northern and Southern Protectorates by the British government unlike other nations where people of various ethnic nationalities agree to live together.
His words: “Unlike other nations, Nigeria was born out of the agreement of people of various ethnic groups that populate it; Nigeria’s unity is only a British invention.”
Dr. Timehin made it known that the government has been making frantic efforts to achieve Nigeria of our own amidst diversities such as the adoption of the English Language as a common language used by speakers of different languages (Lingua Franca), the currency on which we have the major tribes, the federal character principle and quota system, establishment of federal institutions in all states and most importantly, the introduction of NYSC whose core mandate is to inculcate the spirit of selflessness, oneness and brotherhood of all Nigerians Irrespective of cultural and social background.
As solution, Timehin, an Islamic scholar, suggested toeing the path of re-orientation, re-dedication and re-education of Nigerians’ ideologies in quest for national peace, identity, unity, integrity and progress so as to achieve Nigeria of our dream.
In her own reaction, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun ably represented by his Deputy, Engr. (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele explained that the theme and content of the lecture truly reflect the new administration in the state’s ‘Let’s build our future together’. She conveyed the governor’s goodwill message and appreciated the lecturer for his well-researched and extensively-discussed topic.
Moreover, she seized the medium to inform all about various government programmes in stock such as the Anchor’s Borrower’s Scheme and Ogun State job portal launch where unemployed graduates of Ogun State could easily log on to register their details ahead of private-public opportunities that may arise.
Other dignitaries at the occasion include: Ogun State Head of Service, Alh.(Engr) Olanrewaju Isiaka Bisiriyu, Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt.Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Vice Chancellor, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode, Prof. Mukhtar Arigbabu, Ogun State Qaid, Bro.
